Cyber Security: A Brief Introduction
Hello readers, We all live in a society or I should say we all are part of community in which there is a ever-time need of electronic gadgets. As world is developing at fast rate with production of new devices and invention of new technology almost everyday, there’s a need to secure each and every gadget out there because of cyber attacks performed by Threat Actors or HACKERS!!
Now, the common question arises: What is Cyber Security? ; which is followed by another question: What is the Need of Cyber Security?
I’ll try my best to deliver best possible answer and explanation so that after reading this article or post or story or whatever you say, [not saying you’ll get 100% clear answer, which will probably not, but precise :)] you’ll get the idea of what it is. At the end of this article, I’ll add some resources that’ll give you much better explanation.
Let’s start with the 1st question,
Q. What is Cyber Security?
Cyber Security is a practice of defending systems, networks, softwares or piece of code from malicious attacks. It’s also known as Information Security. Cyber Security professionals work their way to secure the systems, networks, softwares or a piece of code from harmful cyber attacks which can lead to loss of company reputation, confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data. It can be divided into many categories.
Network Security is a practice of securing networks from intruder’s attack or any type of malware.
Application Security is a practice of keeping application up-to-date and device free of threats.
Information Security is a practice of protecting privacy and integrity of data both in rest and in transit.
Cloud Security protects virtualized IP, data, applications, services, and the associated infrastructure of cloud computing.
Operational Security includes process and decisions for handling and protecting data assets, etc.
Let’s move towards second and the most genuine question,
Q. What is the Need of Cyber Security?
Need of Cyber Security at these times in which technology is growing at it’s maximum pace is like quenching our thirst with water every 30 minutes in the summers.
As growing various network infrastructure, many companies came into limelight evolving, inventions of new gadgets almost everyday, it’s important to protect these devices, networks of companies and keep everything up-to-date. In a past decade, many attacks outburst and always either destroy confidentiality of data of customers or company’s network infrastructure, reputation.
Pandemic year 2020, was the worst year as cyber attacks occurs every 39 seconds (Report: https://eng.umd.edu/news/story/study-hackers-attack-every-39-seconds) and there we’re many data breaches, and other attacks as well.
As the volume of cyber attacks grows, companies and organizations, especially those that deal information related to national security, health, or financial records, need to take steps to protect their sensitive business and personal information. It is now really important not only for you and me but for every person on this planet to follow some practices so that we can save ourselves from cyber attacks or malicious actors.
